Farm Africa – Market-Led Agriculture Programme (2018–2020)
Empowering Smallholder Farmers Through Value Chain Development
Technical Partner: Food Information Tanzania (FIT) collaborated with
Farm Africa Tanzania to implement a market-led agriculture programme focused on strengthening
value chains for maize, beans, sunflower, and horticultural crops in Tanzania between 2018 and 2020.
The assignment aimed to improve productivity, enhance market linkages, and increase the profitability of
smallholder farmers and youth agripreneurs through business training, food safety compliance, and digital data systems.
Key Contributions and Activities
- Conducted farmer profiling and enterprise mapping in target districts to identify viable agri-business opportunities.
- Delivered training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), Postharvest Management, and Market Readiness.
- Supported formation and mentoring of youth-led producer groups and cooperatives.
- Facilitated linkages between smallholder farmers, aggregators, and processors for structured trade.
- Introduced digital monitoring tools for data capture, traceability, and quality verification.
- Promoted climate-smart agriculture and inclusive participation of women and youth in farming enterprises.
