MEDA Tanzania – Strengthening Market Systems for Youth and Women (2021–2023)
Empowering Youth and Women Entrepreneurs in Agricultural Value Chains
Implementing Partner: Food Information Tanzania (FIT) worked with
Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) to enhance inclusive agri-business and market-system
participation for youth and women in Tanzania between 2021 and 2023.
The collaboration focused on strengthening food-system governance, entrepreneurship, and gender-responsive
business models within value chains such as sunflower, maize, and horticulture—improving livelihoods and
supporting national efforts on youth employability and safe food production.
Key Areas of Contribution
- Conducted gender and youth inclusion diagnostics within local agri-food markets and cooperatives.
- Trained women and youth entrepreneurs on Financial Literacy, Business Planning, and Food Safety Compliance.
- Facilitated development of enterprise incubation hubs and mentorship programs linking youth to markets and finance.
- Supported integration of nutrition-sensitive practices in production and processing systems.
- Delivered capacity-building sessions on GMPs, Postharvest Management, and Record Keeping for MSMEs.
- Contributed to local policy dialogues and value-chain forums promoting inclusive agri-food enterprise growth.
